Jeff Gandel founded his law firm, The Law Office of Jeffrey B. Gandel, over 20 years ago to focus on the protection and growth of creators and the infrastructure around them. The firm represents clients throughout the entertainment and digital technology space, with a focus on music. This job opportunity has arisen due to the increased growth of the firm’s business, requiring an experienced attorney to negotiate deals, review and draft agreements, manage projects, develop new business and review junior staff associates’ work.
Position Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Music / Entertainment Attorney at The Law Office of Jeffrey Gandel, located in midtown Manhattan. The Music / Entertainment Attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice and representation to individuals and companies in the music and entertainment industries. The attorney will draft and negotiate contracts, handle copyright and intellectual property issues, and provide general legal counsel to clients. The attorney will also advise on licensing and royalty issues, handle disputes, and stay updated on relevant laws and regulations. Must have experience handling agreements from start to finish, including but not limited to recording agreements with major and independent record labels, publishing agreements with major and intendent publishers, side artist agreements, and producer agreements. The attorney should also have some experience in reviewing more junior attorneys' work and be able to work with those attorneys to complete agreements.
Qualifications
· Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
· Admission to the bar in the state of New York
· Experience in music / entertainment law (at least 4 years' experience working at a music focused law firm)
· Strong knowledge of copyright law and intellectual property rights
· Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
· Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously
· Analytical skills and strong attention to detail
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Client facing experience
· Ability to build and maintain client relationships
· Knowledge of the music and entertainment industry
